Maranatha! (a parable for Advent)

 In Articles

A parable for the first week of Advent. Let those who have ears, hear:

“And they shall beat their swords into plowshares,” she read from the prophet Isaiah, “and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. This is the word of the Lord.”

And his soul was flooded with hope. “Thanks be to God,” he whispered. And for a moment, if ever so briefly, he could see what Isaiah had seen.

And when she had finished speaking, he stood and walked slowly toward the pulpit, with his heart strangely warmed. When he reached the front of the church, the preacher smiled and held out her hand to greet him. And after wiping away a tear from his eye, he drew his sword, and swiftly ran it through her heart.

And along with all of the faithful who had gathered together in one accord that day, he prayed: “Amen, come Lord Jesus.”
